Procedure: Injection of filler compound into the skin allows for filling of wrinkles that develop with sun exposure and aging.
Effects: Filling of wrinkles with this filler results in filling out and lifting of crevices created by wrinkles, which form with years of facial expression.
Length: Procedure lasts 15 to 20 minutes.
Anesthesia: Patients require regional anesthesia, which is provided by strategic injection of sensory nerves with numbing (local anesthetic) medicine.
Place of Treatment: Procedure is performed in the office.
Recovery: Patients can usually return to work. Light bruising and redness may be evident initially but will resolve within a few days. Corrective makeup can be used to hide these temporary changes during the first few days following injection.
Duration of Results: Patients should expect 12 to 16 months of wrinkle reduction and/or elimination.
Side Effects: Side effects are events that may be experienced by patients as a result of your surgery and should not be considered adverse events. Our patients are counseled regarding these effects and if experienced they are tolerable and often temporary in duration.
Temporary bruising and redness may develop for 1 to 3 days.
Risks: Risks are unwanted events that may occur during or following surgery. These events are recognized as “complications” but their occurrence is minimized by appropriate patient selection, proper surgical decision making, effective surgical technique, and thorough preoperative and postoperative patient management.
- Occasionally, patients may develop excess swelling which is easily treated with several days of oral steroid medication.
- Over injection may result in small areas of bulging, which can be easily messaged out when detected within 1 to 2 days of injection.
- Small plaques may form which can be felt especially in the lips. For this reason lip injection is usually avoided.
